Musings: Being Carefree at Five
LETTERS TO THE PROMT

The query “What did you aspire to become when you were five?” takes me back to a bygone era. My upbringing unfolded in a different epoch, amidst the tranquillity of a lane in the village of Soestduinen, Netherlands. Our comfortable abode, nestled by the woods and dunes, resonated with the presence of books, paintings, and the melodies of classical music.
These were innocent days spent on a quiet lane, sheltered by the embrace of loving parents and the wisdom of a grandfather. Memories of carefree days with companions, and two New Foundland dogs, evoke a sense of thankfulness for a childhood unburdened by the complexities and anxieties of contemporary life.
Back then, thoughts on my future career did not enter my carefree orbit. Such decisions manifested themselves later in life, and reminiscing upon these memories now fills me with deep gratitude.
