Season’s Greetings: The Cycles of Years and Life

https://wjjh.blog/2023/12/23/seasonal-greetings-a-reminder-to-appreciate-the-present-moment/
Like the seasons, the years move through their own cycles, each one possessing its unique charm. With the arrival of winter, amidst long, dark nights, the year draws to a close, offering us a moment of reflection. It’s a time to gather by the warmth of the fireplace, sharing red wine and good company, as we anticipate renewal and regeneration.
The seasonal festivities bridge the close of one chapter and the start of another—the beginning of a new cycle of life. For me, the end of the year is beautifully captured in the captivating winter landscapes of Louis Apol. His serene winter landscapes invite us to reflect on the beauty of a simpler, quieter world.
In these final days of December 2024, I am also reminded of what I reflected on last year: the timeless words of Fra Giovanni Giocondo. Born in Verona around 1433, this Renaissance friar, architect, and scholar penned a letter on Christmas Eve of 1513 to the noble Contessina Allagia Della Aldobrandeschi of Tuscany.
His letter carries a profound message that feels even more poignant in today’s fast-paced and often superficial times. It’s a poetic reminder to cherish the present moment, to discover joy even in life’s challenges, and to recognize the hidden beauty that surrounds us. Fra Giovanni’s imagery of the angel’s hand and his belief that trials and sorrows carry divine gifts remain deeply moving—a timeless testament to the resilience and richness of the human spirit.
My friends, with these sentiments, I wish you and your loved ones all the happiness of the season. May your days be filled with warmth, love, and wonderful moments, and may blessings follow you throughout the New Year.
Kind regards,
