What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?
There are movies, and then there are movies. Some pass through our lives like ships in the night, barely leaving a trace, while others leave an impression that lasts a lifetime—compelling us to watch them again and again. The same can be said for classical music, the museums we visit, the paintings we linger over, the architecture that captivates us, the books we return to, and even the restaurants that become our favourites.
In answering this question, I am reflecting on a span of 65 years, from the 1960s to today. Over this time, certain TV series have stood out as worth revisiting. Among them are Wolf Hall, The Tudors, Richard II, Poirot, Maigret, Murder Rooms, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Winds of War, and Shōgun.
When it comes to films, I have limited my list to thirteen that have held a lasting connection for me. Watching them is like reconnecting with an old friend—one we may have lost touch with, but whose company remains familiar and whose depth we continue to discover anew. Of course, there are more films I have revisited over the years, but these stand out as particular favourites, each seen more than five times:
- To Kill a Mockingbird
- 12 Angry Men
- Death in Venice
- Out of Africa
- Gandhi
- Lawrence of Arabia
- Cry Freedom
- Jonathan Livingston Seagull
- Casablanca
- The Jungle Book
- The Lion King
- The Silence of the Lambs
- Inherit the Wind
