What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?
Letter to the Prompt
Morning Rituals and Reflections

My friend, I do not have many rituals. Upon waking, I check my watch to see how I slept, visit the bathroom, check my weight, and drink a glass of cold mineral water.
I am an early but slow riser, and upon further reflection, I realize that witnessing the sunrise holds profound meaning for me. It offers a daily reminder of life’s beauty and the quiet promise each new day carries.
Some mornings, I take an early walk in the nearby woods, enjoying the way nature stirs from its slumber. As Laura Ingalls Wilder once said, “If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.” These walks, especially as the first light of dawn spreads across the sky, evoke both energy and grace—even when the sun is momentarily hidden behind clouds. Its fleeting yet radiant appearance reminds me that life’s moments are precious. And at my age, with this awareness, I embrace each day knowing it could very well be my last.
Most mornings, however, I turn on Sonos and Idagio, letting the gentle strains of classical Adagio music fill the room—Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and Vivaldi my steadfast companions. As the coffee brews, I watch the sun slowly rise, welcoming the quiet promise of the new day.
With my first cup of coffee in hand, I ease into reality, glancing over my emails without opening them and skimming through the main newspapers—carefully avoiding the nonsense that so often comes from the other side of the Atlantic.
You might say that my first hour is one of awareness and harmony.
